Crokes enjoy Sevens success

GLORY for Kilmacud Crokes at the All-Ireland U14s Sevens in Stillorgan on Saturday.

The hosts took the Cup for the first time, beating Clare's Kilmurry Ibrickane in the final, 7-8 to 6-5.

It was a marvellous final, and the outcome was balanced on a choc-ice stick. The quality of the game summed up the standards of the day.

The Kilmurry captain, Chloe Moloney, was selected as the Player-of-the-Tournament, while Dungarvan won the Plate for the second successive year, defeating St Val's of Cork, 8-8 to 6-7, in another thriller. Meanwhile, over at the Tesco All-Ireland Sevens, St Peregrine's reached the Junior Shield final, losing to Dingle of Kerry.

"It was a super effort from the girls," said Tom Kitt, managing the side with Roger Waters and Conor Barry. Peregrine's had top performers in goalkeeper, Lorraine Kitt, midfielder, Jenny Moore, and forward, Jenny Judge.

Once again, Naomh MearnĂ³g and St Sylvester's staged a spectacular co-production that did the county proud.
