Colum hails the hard work put in by Dubs

DUBLIN begin their National League Division 1 campaign away to Cork this Sunday. Then it's Wexford away, followed by two home matches against Tipperary and Offaly.

"Those four games will tell us a lot," states Colum King, who salutes the dedication of the Dubs. "We are dealing with serious athletes here. They are the best players in the county. They want to play for Dublin. They love playing for Dublin.

"They work hard at it. And that's why every single training session has to be right. I was thrilled to have been a part of the Dublin panel when I was playing. It was such a privilege even to have been involved at that level."

Colum also played for the Dublin juniors. "We reached a Leinster final against Wexford. Martin Storey destroyed us." He has just finished reading Martin Breheny's book on DJ Carey. "DJ was brilliant. I also rated the likes of Charlie McCarthy of Cork and Kilkenny's Joe Hennessy."

He says the longevity of Brian Cody is one of the wonders of the world. "It is just remarkable. It is hard enough for yourself to retain the enthusiasm, never mind the players."

Colum pays tribute to Denise who keeps everything going in the home dugout when he is out on the road running the business and running teams. And like all, Colum's First Lady, the pride of the Mobhi Road, is wishing the Dubs all the best as they try and deliver the best result for the capital.
