Clonkill at a canter

RATHDOWNEY/ERRILL (Laois) v CLONKILL (Westmeath)

(Portlaoise, Tomorrow, 2.30)

IT is customary at this point to talk about the strides being made by Westmeath clubs in Leinster and duly, Clonkill have been installed as heavy favourites to beat their Laois counterparts in Portlaoise tomorrow.

Having won an All-Ireland Intermediate title in 2008, Clonkill have fully established themselves as Westmeath's foremost hurling force although it is their chief rivals, Raharney, who have the distinction of being the last Lake County club to spring a surprise at this juncture, when they beat Offaly champions of 2010, Coolderry, two years ago.

Westmeath's representatives, Clonkill, will see an easier route to this year's provincial decider and should take a step closer to it by winning comfortably here.

ODDS: Rathdowney/Errill 7/4, Draw 10/1, Clonkill 8/15

VERDICT: Clonkill
