Casey calls time on Dubs

PAUL Casey yesterday announced his decision to retire from inter-county service after an 11-year association with the Dublin senior footballers.

The Lucan defender tweeted: "Officially informed Jim Gavin of my retirement from the Dubs today! 11 of the best years of my life & memories that will never be forgotten!"

Handed his debut by Tommy Lyons in 2002, Casey remained a regular starter in the Dublin half-back line during Paul Caffrey's tenure and remained on board during Pat Gilroy's reign.

He accumulated eight Leinster medals as well as a Celtic Cross in 2011.
