Lucan Sarsfields proved too strong for a battling St Maur's as they claimed the Dublin U16 FL Division 2 Final by 5-4 to 2-6 at the 12th Lock, writes Rónán Mac Lochlainn.
Jackie Carey was the goal-scoring hero for Lucan, netting three times as he benefited from a towering performance by Dublin minor hurling panellist Eoghan Ó Conghaile.
The visitors, who contested the Division 2 finals in hurling and football, contested well in the opening-half with a goal from the impressive Jack Bourke boosting their chances while David Carthy landed two frees for the Rush lads.
The hosts had a nice balance in both defence and attack with Shane Kearns and Daire Shanahan offering a great spine at full-back and centre-back respectively, while Conor O'Flynn also impressed between the sticks for Sarsfields.
St Maur's remained in the hunt after the break, through Colin Halpin's goal and points from Liam McGuinness, Eoghan Conroy and Stephen Wilde, while goalkeeper Craig Fortune and substitute Eric Nugent also made telling contributions.
However, Lucan pushed on through points by Dan O'Neill, Kevin Condon and John O'Neill and they confirmed their seven-point win thanks to goals from Cian Nolan and Paul Crummy.
