Call for clubs to take swing at golf classic

THE annual Friends of Dublin Hurling Golf Classic takes place this Thursday at the Castlewarden Golf and Country Club. The time sheet is beginning to fill. "But there are still plenty of places left, and there are also many sponsorship opportunities," announces Michael O'Grady.

"We are asking all clubs, and Dublin hurling people, to support us. It's our biggest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds go into Dublin hurling. The day is good value at €300 for a team of four, while you can sponsor a tee for €100. It's always a lovely day out with good golf, good grub and good chat," adds Michael.

The Kildare venue is one of the best around. "It's a top-class course and people will enjoy the day. It's always a highlight of our year. All are welcome to take part. It's always a nice time for hurling people to meet up again."

To book, ring Michael on 087-2331983 or email: fodh@eircom.net. Or book online at www.fodh.ie

MEL FARRELL will lead a 25-strong team from Erin's Isle up Ireland's highest mountain, Corrán Tuathail, on Saturday, June 1st.

The climb will raise funds for the famous Finglas club. Taking part will be Isles referee, John Fagan, who is living with motor neuron disease. The proceeds from John's climb will go into motor neuron research.

John would appreciate all the support he can get. Check out www.mycharity.ie/event/John_Fagans_Event.

Last year, Mel Farrell walked along the banks of the Royal Canal for his beloved Parish, and he'd welcome a call from anybody who can offer help for this latest venture – 087-2455800.

THE June Bank Holiday will see Scoil Uí Chonaill host their Festival Weekend. The event caters for all ages. And everybody is welcome, just mention the magic password, SCOIL, and the gates will open.

"We are also hoping to have a 'Scoil Gathering' of many of our former members who will be around for the weekend," announces Scoil PRO, Niamh Farrelly.

The action begins on Thursday, May 30 with a Teenage Football Mixed Blitz. Then the following evening there will be a Mixed Adult Football Fun Blitz for all present players and ex-players.

On Saturday, June 1 the Dubs are in action against Westmeath in Croke Park and the match will be on the television in the club.

Sunday sees the Scoil Family Fun Day. All in the Clontarf-Fairview locality and beyond are invited to drop in to the Scoil around the corner. Enjoyment is guaranteed.
