Buckley grabs Glenalbyn glory for Kilmacud

A THRILLER down at the Neller. Both sides produced their Sunday best.

The winner didn't come till four minutes from time. For most of the game, the crowd were on their feet.

The water-girls did a first-rate job. It was thirsty work out there. Umpire, Derek Oman, had the right idea. He wore a straw hat and sandals.

Hollie McGregor is the pride of Drimnagh. She is such a pure striker of the sliotar.

The Galtymore girls took the lead in the sixth minute, when Kadie Dunne edged the ball into the basket at the Killester end.

Kilmacud's Emer O'Rafferty went on a powerful run in the 15th minute. Her shot was deflected for a 45, which Julia Buckley converted.

Crokes had the advantage at the interval, 1-1 to 1-0, following a goal from the player-of the match, Charlotte O'Farrell (pictured left receiving her award), who was placed by Buckley.

Katie Whyte's close-range strike brought Counsel's second goal five minutes into the restart. Hannah Cosgrave then rattled the Counsel post. Gripping stuff.

It was Buckley who struck Kilmacud's second goal. Maedhbh Gallagher was its chief engineer.

A quality point from Beth White levelled the tie, but it was Buckley who earned Glenalbyn glory as she raced clear of the Counsel defence and drove the sliotar deep to the sack.

Counsel the brave turned up the heat in their efforts to get back, but the trophy was travelling home on the N11.
