Brennan eventually lands the Derry post

VETERAN boss John Brennan has finally landed the job of Derry senior football manager after enjoying significant success on the Ulster club circuit.

The Lavey man was last night ratified as Damian Cassidy's successor and duly declared: "I look forward to getting good support and I hope we can have a successful year."

Brennan's managerial CV boasts county successes in Derry, Antrim and Tyrone and he recently emerged as clear favourite for a post that he has been heavily linked with in the past.

In October 2004, he was pipped on a 9-8 vote after challenging then Derry boss Mickey Moran for the role while he was previously nominated in a couple of other occasions, only to miss out.

Brennan's backroom set-up has not been announced but it was revealed that he has his four-man team in place, with strong speculation that 1993 All-Ireland winning captain Henry Downey will be involved.

SOUTH TIPPERARY officials have launched an investigation after a match was abandoned in their division for the fourth time this year. Referee Donie Cahill has submitted his match report after he called a halt to the South SFC clash between Killenaule and Clonmel Commercials at Ballyporeen last Tuesday evening.

It is alleged that Killenaule player John O'Dwyer, a member of Tipperary's U21 All-Ireland winning hurling team, was struck near the touchline late in the match. The South Tipperary board is coming under increasing pressure to consider the expulsion of teams from their competitions following this latest incident of on-field violence.
