Boom time as Brigid's bag a double

IT'S the same old story -- you are waiting ages for a bus and two come along together.

Out in Blanchardstown and Castleknock, they know the feeling. "We have never won an adult championship before, yet on Saturday we win two in the one day," smiles Aodh ó Murchú.

Aodh manages the Brigid's Senior 2s with Mick O'Sullivan, Kevin Elliott, Anne ó Murchú and Thelma O'Mahony. They beat St Vincent's, 4-4 to 2-6 at Drumnigh. There was a royal welcome in Russell Park.

"It's a wonderful day for the club. It is such a boost for camogie, especially winning the two finals," stated Aodh.

"We have 22 in our Senior 2 squad. And they certainly put in the work over the year. This is a fantastic reward for them.

"Many of the players have been playing for years without any success, so it's lovely for them to finally get the recognition they deserve.

"It's marvellous looking at the bigger picture because our underage section is very strong. We have some terrific talent there, and this will help to inspire the kids coming up.

"It was such a wonderful occasion. We had terrific support. And it was the overall team performance that won it for us.

"It was a tight enough game. Vincent's are a strong side, but we just kept hanging in. The girls had to dig deep."

And shortly they'll have to go to the well again as they are also in the semi-final of the league. "We'll knuckle down now again and prepare for that," says Aodh.
