Boden resume normal service

COUNTY champions Ballyboden St Enda's got their four-in-a-row ambitions back on track with a ten-point victory over a determined Kilmacud Crokes in their SHC Group 1 encounter at Páirc Uí Mhurchú last night.

Following last week's defeat by O'Toole's, 'Boden were quick to assert their dominance, racing into a five-point lead after 10 minutes with Simon Lambert, Paul Ryan and Shane Durkin contributing with impressive scores.

Kilmacud were struggling to gain any kind of foothold, especially around midfield, where Durkin and David Curtin monopolised possession, with Stephen Hiney and Dean Curran in particular offering valuable support.

Crokes managed to suppress the host's momentum sufficiently through points from Conor Clinton, Barry O'Rorke and a cracking effort from Donal McGovern but St Enda's re- established their grip towards the end of the half to see them lead 0-14 to 0-5 at the interval.

The second period was a more even affair with Kilmacud showing glimpses of their potential through the displays of Rory O'Carroll, Ronan Walsh and McGovern and two quick points from Fergal Armstrong had the deficit down to eight points by the 36th minute.

However, with Malachy Travers mopping up to great effect at centre-back, 'Boden hit back with four successive points from Hiney, Ryan, Niall Mc- Morrow and Curtin just to dampen any thoughts of a Kilmacud comeback.

On 44 minutes, the game was effectively settled when McMorrow's enterprising run and pass freed Conor McCormack and his shot whistled to the bottom right-hand corner of Macdara Ó hÓgáin's net to open up a 12-point advantage for the hosts.

St Enda's, despite the introduction of a number of quality subs, became increasingly ragged and Armstrong managed to squeeze a 20-metre free to the net on 57 minutes for a deserved goal, which was added to by sublime points from O'Carroll and Jack Doughan entering injury-time.

Ryan was to have the final say with his 62nd-minute goal painting a slightly flattering gloss on the final scoreline but Crokes will take some heart from their second-half display ahead of their tie with Faughs on Saturday evening.
