Boden face tough path to go fourth

ALREADY, people are asking: Can Ballyboden St Enda's claim the four-in-a-row?

They are in the same Senior Championship group as Lucan Sarsfields, St Brigid's, Naomh Mearnóg and Erin's Isle. No loose change there.

Pool two sees Raheny, Good Counsel, Na Fianna and St Vincent's, who reached last year's final.

Boden beat Vins by 1-11 to 1-5 before a big crowd at St Peregrine's last October. Boden have won eight senior championships, their first coming in 1999.

Mearnóg lifted the prize in 2009, overcoming Good Counsel in a thriller at the Iveagh Gounds, while Erin's Isle last tasted gold in 2003 following a dramatic replay against St Vincent's in Parnell Park.

Lucan will also test all-comers. They are definitely a club on the rise. Vinnies were on the podium back in 2007. As Marino, they achieved the five-in-a-row in 1996.

Two years ago, Raheny reached their first final. Oliver Goldsmith was the only person left in the village reading his Sunday Indo that morning.

Good Counsel were champs in 2004, while Na Fianna will also be well in the frame, having won Division 1 of the league last season. The championship throws-in at the end of August. It will be worth the wait.
