Boden boys get the job done early against Finbarrs

Ballyboden St Enda's did most of the damage in the first half of their opening Championship encounter at O'Toole Park last night, killing off Finbarrs challenge early.

Boden led 2-12 to 0-3 at the interval and an improved Finbarrs showing after the break, in which Ger Doddrill excelled from centre-back, was never going to launch an unlikely comeback. In truth, St Enda's played poorly for much of the second period, particularly in attack but could derive a large degree of satisfaction from the clinical nature of their first-half showing.

The Firhouse Road men opened brightly with early scores by Paul Ryan and David O'Connor and the goal that had threatened to arrive duly came in the 13th minute when a long ball from the impressive Dean Curran was pounced upon by O'Connor who flicked non-chalantly to the net. aurice Nagle, who had earlier struck the crossbar, added two quickfire points and when Curran launched another delivery to O'Connor, Lar Sweetman's heroics were in vain as Ryan rifled the rebound home from eight yards in the 17th minute.

Eamonn Dillon offered Finbarrs some brief respite with a brace of frees but Boden's dominance was translated into scores by Conor McCormack and Nagle to ensure a 15-point interval lead.

Points still arrived through McCormack and Nagle, with Doddrill's glorious score in reply a poor return from the Cabra men's improved showing. With the contest petering out, Simon Lambert's move to full-forward reaped dividends with a classy goal on the turn in the 52nd minute.
