Blues U16s have to be extra special to defy Galway

Dublin's under-16 footballers advanced to the 2014 All-Ireland final following their enthralling 6-12 to 4-13 victory after extra-time over Galway in Moate last Sunday afternoon.

Despite falling behind to an early point, Dublin were boosted by a superb Niamh Carty goal and they pushed further clear when Hannah O'Neill added a second goal soon after.

With a strong breeze at their backs, Dublin tagged on two further goals before half-time break with Billie Kate Huggard and O'Neill both raising the green flag for Ken Nyhan's side.

Galway hit back after the break through goals by Leanne Coen and Siobhan Divilly and three superb points by Eimear O'Kane.

A Divilly goal three minutes from time edged Galway ahead but Clara O'Sullivan forced added time when levelling matters in the 61st minute on a full-time score of Dublin 5-7 Galway 4-10.

A penalty, superbly despatched by Dublin captain Erica Byrne, proved the key score in extra-time and further points from Mia Jennings, Byrne, Jade Sweeney and Clare McGrath confirmed a five-point win for the Dubs, for whom wing-back Emily Flanagan excelled over the eighty minutes.
