Blues braced for spotlight

REACHING a final lifts the mood. In recent years, there haven't been too many of them for Dublin camogie.

But three cheers for the Dubs who have reached the National League Division 4 final. Carlow await.

The match takes place at the impressive home of Donaghmore Ashbourne this Sunday (1.0). The Dublin faithful are appealing for the Blue Army to travel. "It's only up the road from Finglas," states the slogan.

There's nothing like getting to a final for putting a pep in the step. Final day has a mood all of its own.

Yet the Dublin manager, Gerry McGough, is very much keeping the sliotar on the ground. Gerry runs the show with Sandra Tarr, Dave Dunning, Colm Berkeley, Brendan Cooper and Martina Twomey.

Dublin's last outing came against Carlow in Portmarnock last month. It brought a defeat. Gerry knows that a repeat showing from the team will end with the same result.

"Going into that match we knew we were in the final already. Maybe that affected our display," mused Gerry. "We were very flat. It was disappointing, and we know we will have to show a big improvement."

Dublin have been in blistering form in the campaign, running up handsome totals and putting in the hard yards.

"The year has gone well for us. It's been enjoyable. As a management unit, we couldn't praise the girls enough," adds Gerry.

"We have put in a lot of hours. The girls have bonded and that has shown in the displays.

"We have been very impressed with their attitude. I feel that many of them could be pushing for senior places next year."
