Blanch boys out to teach UCD a lesson

St Brigid's v UCD

Parnell Park, Tonight, 8.15

TURN up the lights -- the weekend starts here.

Four quarter-finals to look forward to, and this could be the most intriguing of them all, a Donnycarney Late Late Show with something for everybody in the audience.

Both clubs know what it's like to climb the steps to collect the silver. Both boast excellent personnel.

UCD are playing like a club team. They have an earnest spirit about them.

They were firmly in control against St Peregrine's in the last round. They had too much pace and power in the satchels.

They mind the shop with composure. Josh Hayes, Peter Kelly, Mark McGowan, Cormac Brady and Dublin's Michael Fitzsimons are footballers you can trust to do the right thing.

Shane Redmond clipped over a quality point from centre half-back against Peregrine's, and there's plenty of drive in the boots of John Heslin, John O'Loughlin, Ciaran Kelly and Donie Kingston.

This will be the hardest task yet for College. Brigid's have already beaten Kickhams and Jude's on their way into the last eight.

They don't lack experience, and the eye is most certainly in. In Division 2 this term, they confirmed they lived on a street called Desire.

Their defence proved their calibre as Jude's, last year's runners-up, came strong late on the last day. Declan Lally and Paddy Andrews got the Brigid's goals.

Shane Supple is following the example of Stephen Cluxton -- landing 45's. He might have eventually progressed to take the penalties at Portman Road.

Barry Cahill is the engine of Russell Park. He'll keep the clock ticking, no matter what the climate.

Ken Darcy and Kevin Bonner have been down this road before. And there's zest in the contributions of Sean Murray and Cian Mullins.

For an opening act to get the Senior Football Championship show on the road, the CCC couldn't have picked a better duel.

Student Power against the Blanch Boys. It's Crunchie time.
