bernard strike lifts Plunkett's

A 30th-minute goal from Bernard Brogan proved crucial as St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh laboured somewhat to overcome a battling St Anne's by six points in their Dublin SFC second round clash at Parnell Park last Saturday.

The AFL1 side had struggled with their shooting in the opening half as they found themselves in arrears after the concession of scores to Craig McKeown, Paddy McGrath and Eoin Kennedy.

Critically, Plunkett's began to generate some momentum towards the end of the half and they levelled matters by the 28th minute following successive scores from Niall Walsh, Bernard Borgan and Declan Lally.

After Alan Brogan had opened his account in the 30th minute, Bernard Brogan found the net a minute later, firing past Lorcan Molloy at the second attempt after Niall Walsh had pierced the St Anne's defence.

Any thoughts that the expected landslide would materialise were quickly dispelled upon the restart with St Anne's impressing through the efforts of Aaron Shanahan and Brian Connolly.

They reduced their arrears following scores by Scott Fulham and Daniel Galvin but their opponents managed to keep their noses in front through points by Patrick McNulty and Gareth Smith.

A classy point by Alan Brogan in the 49th minute pushed Plunkett's further clear and substitute David Matthews kicked their final score a minute from time.
