Barry's Dubs make short work of Lilies

DUBLIN'S work was done at half-time. Three goals and 11 points in the kitty.

A solid opening to the Leinster Minor Championship campaign at St Peregrine's on Saturday. It ended Dublin 3-16 Kildare 2-5.

A good first day at the office for Conor Barry and colleagues, Bobby McNulty, Paul O'Donovan, Mick Neville, Deirdre Colgan and Damien Prout.

The hosts began like the Blue Tornado. Their fitness, pace and all-round skills impressed.

There's valuable experience on board: 11 of the girls were involved with last year's All-Ireland winning squad.

Molly Lamb of Kilmacud Crokes has been named captain. A fitting candidate. She helped her club to Dublin Championship glory last term.

There's 28 players in the squad, and 15 clubs are represented. The new boss is happy with the spread and the depth of the talent in the county.

Next up is Wicklow away and then home to Wexford. The top two sides in the group advance to the Leinster Championship semi-final. Saturday's show suggests that Dublin will be in the mix. As opening fixtures go, it was the perfect serving of Barry's Afternoon Tea.
