Ballymun should have answers for Tower's test

Ballymun Kickhams v Round Tower's (C)

(St Finian's, Newcastle, Tonight, 7.30)

THE teams will be charmed with the venue. All-comers have praised the refurbished Finian's home.

Ballymun were on duty in Parnell Park the last day.

They came through the Isles match without too much bother.

They had secured their ticket at half-time, even without the injured James McCarthy.

Their three first-half goals came from Kevin Leahy, Conor Weir and Ted Furman.

Dean Rock converted some tidy frees, and it was very much a business-like display from Paul Curran's side.

Tower's will ask them a few more awkward questions.

They proved their resolve by emerging from the Balgriffin Blockbuster.

There was only a point in it against Trinity Gaels, who are never easily beaten.

Chris Carty was the top scorer for the Hoops.

Tower's contain a cluster of experience. And they always try to combine pace with precision.

Ian Ward, Stephen Halpin and the Murrays, Derek and Damien, offer much, as do Simon Owens, Niall Byrne and Barry Keane.

Stephen Gibney, Mark Taylor and Jason Joyce are also well capable of making solid donations for Tower's.

Kickhams will match their industry. Brian McCullagh and Davy Byrne gelled well in midfield against Isles.

Elliott Reilly brings dash to the stage, and Philip McMahon, Alan Hubbard and Derek Byrne are also first-class footballers.

Under the Newcastle lights, there should be much to see.

But for most, it's hard not to look beyond the Kickhams Kings.
