BALLYMUN KICKHAMS progressed to the quarter-finals (against Ballyboden) of the Dublin U21FC 'A' following their 2-17 to 3-8 first round second replay victory over Clontarf at Páirc Ciceam last night, writes Ronan Mac Lochlainn.
The visitors looked well set to advance when they opened up a four point lead early in the second half but a string of nine unanswered points swung the tie in Ballymun's favour. After a tight opening, Kickhams raced four points clear thanks to a wonderful solo goal from Andrew O'Brien.
Clontarf responded superbly and turned the game on its head midway through the half through two goals of their own from Maitias Mac Donnacha and Jack McCaffrey as they led by four points approaching the break.
However, an instinctive finish from Karl Doyle on the stroke of half-time ensured the sides remained deadlocked at 2-5 apiece. The visitors seized the initiative upon the restart thanks to a point from Brian Forde and Ciarán Johnston's goal but scores from Dean Rock and two sublime efforts by Fiach Andrews pushed the hosts clear on their way to victory.
