Ballymun Kickhams cruised into the second round of the Dublin SFC following their facile twenty point victory over Parnells at Parnell Park last night.
The final margin of victory was more indicative of the struggles that Parnells find themselves in at senior level at present rather than any great marker being laid down by Ballymun but Kickhams will nonetheless be pleased to have advanced without too much difficulty.
With the wind at their backs, Kickhams opened up brightly thanks to two early scores through Jason Whelan and Dean Rock with Parnells replying through an excellent point by Willie Henry in the 5th minute.
A wonderful Rock point restored Ballymun's two point lead soon after with Fiach Andrews finally finding his range to inch the 2012 winners 0-4 to 0-1 clear by the 10th minute.
A 14th minute free from Stephen Duffy was just reward for some prolonged periods of pressure by Parnells but without totally convincing, Kickhams managed to put daylight between the teams after a brace of Rock frees and Whelan's second of the night.
Stephen Cluxton was proving largely effective in a sweeper role for Parnells but his side fell further behind in the 24th minute after James McCarthy's classy effort with midfield partner Elliott Reilly doing likewise from Rock's superb pass two minutes later.
The range of attacking options available to Ballymun was highlighted towards the end of the half with both Davy Byrne and Alan Hubbard joining the attack from wing-back to kick points, helping their side to a 0-12 to 0-2 interval advantage.
The procession towards the Parnells goal continued after the break with Andrews adding a fine score within thirty seconds of the restart while Rock converted a close-in free in the 35th minute to compound Parnells' difficulties.
Lady luck failed to smile on the Coolock outfit when Colm Begley's powerful shot clipped the crossbar in the 40th minute as Ballymun piled on the misery through Derek Byrne and Rock.
Rock punished Parnells even further in the 48th minute when calmly converting a penalty after a foul on Whelan with substitute Kevin Leahy, who was later dismissed, adding a second goal five minutes from time.
