BALLINTEER St John's made a winning return to the top flight when defeating St Patrick's, Palmerstown by 2-12 to 0-14 in their Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 encounter at Marley Park yesterday.

The visitors started brightly, with Shane Stapleton in impressive form at centre-forward, but St John's gained a foothold through a crucial goal from Feargal Chambers.

Points ensued from Joe Maher, Ciarán Lane, Chambers and Aodhán Clabby.

The hosts tired, but held on to mark a positive week after the club's U21s advanced to the A final following their defeat of Ballyboden St Enda's.

At St Mobhi Road, Faughs overcame Na Fianna by 2-13 to 0-10, while Peadar Carton inspired O'Toole's to a 3-18 to 0-8 win over Lucan Sarsfields.
