Ashbourne a class act for Golf Classic

DES SMYTH is one of Ireland's greatest ever golfers. He'll always be the King of Laytown-Bettystown. He's won an ocean-ful of trophies and he's been a Ryder Cup vice-captain.

He also officially opened the Ashbourne Golf Club. That's where the fourth Annual Camogie Golf Classic, in association with MMI, will take place on Friday, July 5.

It costs €200 for a team of four. Teams can include women and men. The price includes lunch and a gift bag. There will be prizes for the top three teams, plus numerous spot prizes.

The club is just eight minutes from the M50. It was established in 1991. It opened in June, 1994. Des Smyth was involved in the design. It is one of the most picturesque courses on the circuit.

The tee-times are from 9.30am to 2.30pm and are filling up already. The Camogie Golf Classic has become one of the highlights of the camogie calendar. Tee-box sponsorship costs €100.

There are some cracking golfers among the camogie community. The hand-eye co-ordination never fades. More details from (01) 865-8618, email Claire@camogie.ie or log onto the website to complete the registration form at www.camogie.ie.
