FORMER Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers man Pádraig Amond has disappointed a number of League of Ireland sides by turning down the chance to return home and instead sign for Grimsby Town.
Former U21 cap Amond was a free agent after his release from Morecambe, and a number of Irish clubs had expressed an interest in the Carlow native. But instead he's opted for a move to the Conference on a one-year deal with Grimsby.
"I'm absolutely delighted to be at Grimsby. It's a big club and one with a lot of history and traditions that I really respect and I just can't wait to get started," said Amond.
"I watched the play-off final and I thought Grimsby were very unlucky, but football is cruel at times. There's no reason why we can't be the on the right side of that this year," added the forward who began with Shamrock Rovers but made his name with Sligo and also played in Portugal.
