Dublin Stars shine bright on Howth Hill

FOR years, Fintan O'Brien's puck-outs from Hyde Park could go spinning over Killiney Hill.

Now the Cuala Cat is the Dublin Poc Fada champion.

Fintan had a shot to spare over Tommy Somers of Lucan. It was the third year the event was hosted by Beann Eadair at the picturesque location.

Fintan went around the course in 39 shots.

The camogie competition was won by the Dublin Minor goalkeeper, Faye McCarthy (St Jude's) on 17 shots. Faye just pipped Lucan's Kate Whyte.

"Overall, it was a great night. Both competitions were very close," revealed Tom Ryan.

Tomorrow night, the same venue will stage the U16 Hurling and Camogie Poc Fada competitions (6.30).

There's a couple of places still available. Details from Tom Ryan (087-2857669) tom.ryan.ccc.dublin@gaa.ie

Frank was an Isles gem

THE contribution of Frank O'Shea is what made Erin's Isle the club it is today.

Any job he was asked to do, he did it with devotion, and with a sense of privilege.

He loved the scent of Farnham Drive. And the generations that passed through its doors have much to be grateful for.

His presence cheered up life in the club, and in the village.

Frank was there for all the days, big and small. Happy to keep the engine purring.

Finglas has had many heroes. And Frank is up there with the best of them.

He'll always be the pride of the Parish.

Harps on winning streak

THE new Skerries Harps clubhouse was on RTé's Winning Streak last Saturday night.

The feature showed how Harps had put their National Lottery funding to good use in the clubhouse building project.

This Thursday, the club will host a Benefit Night for Jamie Wall, the Cork dual star, who is battling a serious illness. It will be a night of music and stories. It begins at 8.30pm.

Boden's donor clinic

THIS Thursday, there will be a Blood Donor Clinic at Ballyboden St Enda's on the Firhouse Road (5.pm to 8.30pm). People between the ages of 18 and 65 are invited to give blood.

Blood donors are always urgently needed. Donor Line: 1850 731 137. giveblood.ie
