IRELAND international Conor Sammon will play a part in Derby County's push for promotion to the Premier League after he received an unexepcted recall to the Rams side.
Sammon was named in the starting XI for Derby's 3-3 draw with Millwall on Saturday, his first start for the club in a year. The 28-year-old had spent most of this season out on loan, to Ipswich and Rotherham, but boss Steve McClaren was happy to use Dubliner Sammon against Millwall, and also in the games ahead should Derby make the playoffs.
"Darren Bent was ill and we couldn't risk Chrissy Martin from the start and so Conor was thrown in and I thought he did ever so well," said McClaren.
"It was a difficult game and we had to play a bit more direct because of the state of the pitch, as you saw with a couple of bobbles. Conor's an asset for us. The lads love Sammo and he gives 110% - if that's possible, he gives it."
