Class Carla to lead talented Dublin U21s

CARLA ROWE is one of the most exciting footballers in the country.

She is also versatile. Carla plays for Clann Mhuire. Last July in Parnell Park, they won the Dublin Junior Championship. Carla played a stormer at midfield. She was the top-scorer. Earlier in the season, she had excelled at left half-back for the Dublin seniors in the National League final at the same venue against Cork.

Then in the Aisling McGing U21 All-Ireland final, Carla performed in the left corner-forward position, scoring 1-3 as the Dubs toppled the Royals at Clane.

Yet it is at left half forward that Carla has cemented her growing reputation with the senior Dubs. She contributed two points against Cork in last September's All-Ireland final.

Now, she has been selected as the new captain of the Dublin U21 side, and also as the vice-captain of the seniors.

"It's a massive honour. I'm absolutely delighted to have been given both roles," says Carla.

"We know we have to work even harder to repeat last year's U21 success. And with the seniors, it's a case of learning from 2014.

"It's all about looking forward to the new opportunities the season brings," states the Dundalk IT student.
