Career killer

HIGHLY-RATED Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has warned any contenders for the manager's job at Chelsea that the Stamford Bridge post will "destroy careers".

Just days after Andre Villas-Boas was ditched by the club, Chelsea’s big names are also facing the boot with a major clear-out planned of stars like Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard.

After a turbulent weekend, Chelsea get back to the football tonight when they take on Chris Hughton's Birmingham City in a fifth round FA Cup replay.

It's a game that Chelsea didn't want but the Blues post is one that Irishman Rodgers (pictured left), who is fondly regarded at Stamford Bridge from his time on the coaching staff under Jose Mourinho, definitely doesn't want.

“If any of our fans are wondering about me and Chelsea, they need not panic. I am trying to build my career and not destroy it,” said Antrim man Rodgers.

Harry Redknapp has also made it clear he has no intention of making what would be a controversial switch from Tottenham.

“It would be difficult. I wouldn't be able to come back to north London,” he said with a smile. “So no, I will pass on that one.”
