IT'S fifty years since Dublin won the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship.
The special anniversary of that triumph will be celebrated on Friday, September 4.
Liam Martin captained the team. He is asking for all the players on the 1965 squad to text him on 087-6333316.
He'll then ring them back and give them the full details of the event.
Liam and his crew are putting the final touches to the occasion.
"It's the same day as the Friends of Dublin Hurling Golf Classic, so the idea is to play the golf and then have a social afterwards," explains Liam.
"That would make a nice day of it. It would be lovely for all the fellas to meet up again and remember old times."
Dublin beat Limerick in the final. Limerick were the favourites. They had enjoyed success at colleges level.
But Dublin's preparation had been solid. They had played challenge matches all over the country.
"You are so focused that you don't remember much from the game," reflects Liam.
"But I recall walking out after the match at the back of Hill 16 and having a look at Jimmy Doyle's hurley. Tipp beat Wexford in the senior final that day.
"Jimmy was the Tipp captain. It was a lovely hurley. I think his father, who was a cobbler, made it for him."
Years after, Liam met Dublin's David Hickey, who had been sitting in the Hogan Stand watching the boys of '65.
"He said he couldn't believe what he saw that day. Limerick were the big tip, but David remembered the Dublin team playing out of their skin. He said he felt so proud."
