Brennan makes the difference!

Former Cavan inter County GAA player Mickey Brenanan was in excellent form in the O'Neills Sports division one match played in Cavan Astro Park where Cavan Town played hosts to Navan side OMP United

On this occasion, in contrast to his county allegiance on the GAA playing fields, Brennan found himself in opposition to a Cavan side where he has played for OMP United for a number of seasons.

Going into the match OMP manager Steve Laverty was conscious his side were only one point ahead of the relegation zone, having won only one of their last six matches.

On a slippy pitch due to earlier falls of snow, his side got off to a perfect start when Brennan put them one up after ten minutes with a great headed effort. Midway through the half Brennan once again got himself into a coring opportunity but his goal bound shot was deflected into the path of Kevin Barry Mallon who made no mistake from close range to give his side a two goal advantage.

Early in the second half Jimmy Fallon pulled one back for Cavan when his accurate strike in a crowded goalmouth found the net.

Cavan went close to getting an equaliser on a couple of occasions, but following a quick break from defence Brennan stretched the Cavan rearguard with a surging run from mid field and unselfishly found Eanna Donoghue bearing down on goal, and he made no mistake to make it 3 -1.

With ten minutes remaining Cavan were thrown a lifeline with a penalty award which Michael Smith duly converted, but the last piece of the action was left to Andy Kearney who finished with a thirty yard pile driver to make it 4 -2 in favour of OMP and the securing of a badly needed three points.
