Bohs opt for Long ball

NEW Bohemians boss Keith Long (inset) says he will start work straight away as he bid to make the Dalymount Park outfit competitive again, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

The Gypises had been on the hunt for a new manager following Owen Heay's decision last week to leave the club and take up the manager's post at Sligo Rovers.

Aware that a rapid appointment was needed to try and keep last season's top players at the club, Bohs today confirmed that Dubliner Long had been given the post.

"I am delighted to be taking over as manager of Bohemian FC and I am very much looking forward to working at this great football club.

"Preparations for next season will begin immediately and we will endeavour to build on the progress made this year," said Long.

The 40-year-old had a long association with Bray Wanderers and took over as Athlone Town boss last April but was unable to keep them in the Premier Division.
