THE Boden bricks and mortar won this one. Into their fifth successive 'We Are Dublin' Senior 1 Championship final.
It was a sizzling semi-final Sunday on the Firhouse Road. Ballyboden beat Lucan, 2-13 to 1-9.
It wasn't a stroll down the pier. Far from it. Lucan looked lively.
They had a sharp tempo to their play. They don't lack pace.
They have a quality goalkeeper in Kate Whyte. She was taking their long distance frees. She was also very accurate with her short puck outs.
There was a cracking atmosphere at Pairc Ui Mhurchu. The score-board operator was busy.
The sun was out. And so was Rachel Ruddy.
She excelled at right corner-back.
She won an amount of tackles. And she eased many a tricky situation at the Boden cross-roads.
Her Dublin footballing colleague, Natalia Hyland, also had a stormer at left half-back. And Susan Kennedy was assured in the number three jersey.
Then there's the peerless Fiona Ni Chorcorain, majestic at centre half-back.
The home defence had to be especially vigilant early on. The Sars were causing problems as they attacked the Ball Alley end.
Their forward unit included proven artists like Ali Twomey, Orla Beagan and Joelenne Hoary.
They had aces in defenders, Ailise Dowling and Claire Rigney. And their work-rate never dipped, even when the game seemed to be drifting out of their grasp.
The champions had the X-factor in Anne Griffin. She converted some cracking frees. Her tally was nine points, eight frees and one 45.
Boden's two first half goals, coming within two minutes of each other, proved crucial. It settled them down and it saw them lead at the break, 2-4 to 1-3.
The Tipperary All-Ireland winner, Jill Horan, plays in the home engine room. It was her delivery from the left that opened the gate for Paula McGrath on 22 minutes.
Griffin's free from the left led to the second as the sliotar found its way to Denise McGrath, who palmed in - 2-4 to 0-2.
Boden's craft and experience seemed set to now forge out a comfortable victory. But, on 26 minutes, the Sars were breathing again when Twomey's free from the left dipped under the slates.
Boden ticked on three quick points on the restart. Yet credit to Lucan, who managed to reduce the deficit to a goal before two Griffin frees pushed the holders into the clear again.
And Boden sealed the lid with strikes from Denise McGrath, Griffin (2) and a peach of a finish from Horan, who was released by Hyland.
