BALLYMUN KICKHAMS

THIS week's "Hero of the Week" is awarded to a team. The U16 boys' footballers, who without doubt paid the greatest tribute possible to Declan Conlon, who passed away suddenly last weekend. The lads dominated the League Final from start to finish, and thoroughly deserved to win, and the emotional scenes at the final whistle will live long in the hearts of those at the game. Well done to everyone involved, including some of the U15 team, who had earlier in the week provided an exemplary guard of honour for Declan. It was simply put the finest tribute the lads could pay to Declan, and they completed it with this great win. Well done lads, our heroes of the week. Our U15s will be bag-packing in Tesco, Omni this coming Saturday and Sunday. Please try and support this valuable fundraiser for the team. The lads have also had to postpone the Final of the John Roche Tournament until January. Our nursery finished up on Saturday, and does not resume again until the New Year. Thanks to everyone who helped out in the party, including the big man in the red suit. The juvenile calendar for 2015 is now on sale for €5 and is available from all juvenile team mentors, or from Mace on Glasnevin Avenue. Also, our U12s had a fine win over Raheny on Saturday, with Charlie Moore and Deano Robertson in exceptional form. Well done lads. Finally, a big thank you to Monsignor Eoin Thynne for his time in providing, and to everyone who attended, last Saturday evening's mass for deceased members. Thank you also to all that contributed to the tea/sandwiches after, much appreciated. For more info on these news pieces, please visit our social media on Facebook/Twitter, www.ballymunkickhams.com.

CUALA

WHAT a season it's been for Cuala's footballers. On Sunday, our senior team defeated Lucan Sarsfields in Bray to win the Promotion Play-off Final and gain promotion to Division 1, while earlier in the season our third team went unbeaten through their entire league campaign. Cuala are now one of the few teams in Dublin with Division 1 teams in both codes. Sadly, the weekend was tinged with some disappointment for the adult footballers, as our AFL5 team lost their promotion play-off semi-final in extra-time against Round Towers Lusk. It was a very tight affair with Lusk getting a very late goal to edge out Cuala by a solitary point. There's been tremendous work put in to football in Cuala by too many people to mention here and it's fantastic to see that work bearing fruit. Well done to all concerned. Well done to Cuala's minor camogie team, who defeated Kilmacud Crokes by 2-7 to 3-0 in the Minor C Championship to finish top of their group. Congratulations to Cuala's Sinead Murphy, who was awarded Division 1 Player of the Year by Dublin Camogie. The Lotto wasn't won, so next week's jackpot will be €1,800. Our three €50 lucky dip winners were Adrian Dunne, Hugo McCann and Mary Dunne. Tickets for next week's draw can be bought online at http://www.cualagaa.ie/lotto. The 2014 AGM is in Fitzpatrick's Killiney Castle Hotel on Wednesday 3rd December at 7:30pm. Academy Christmas Raffle Tickets, priced €2 each, will be sold by our young Academy members from next week with some great prizes donated by Academy parents. Go n-éirí go geal le Scoil Lorcáin le hAonach na Nollag i mbliana a bheidh i Halla Cuala, Deilginis ar an 7 Nollaig 2-5 in. All Cuala members and their families are invited.

KILMACUD CROKES

FOR the second year in-a-row, both minor football teams have qualified for their Championship Final. In what promises to be a big club day out, the minor B lads reach their third final in-a-row and hope to make "two out of three ain't bad". A Cian O'Connor penalty put the gloss on an 8-point victory over local rivals and much-fancied Ballyboden A. Gav McDermott's goal and a John Maher cracker sent the B team in one-point up at half-time on a massive pitch in IT Blanchardstown. But goals from Peter Herlihy and the last-gasp three-pointer from Conor McNicholas were needed to rein in a five-point second-half deficit to win by three. Hard luck to the senior hurlers, who lost to St Jude's in the AHL1 League Final: An already depleted Crokes were put under further pressure following a harsh red card within a couple of minutes of the throw-in. However, the county champions did manage to stay in touch until the short whistle, with Jude's finishing out the half a solitary point ahead; 1-6 to 0-8. However, the heavy O'Toole Park pitch began to take its toll on the depleted Crokes team as the second half wore on. Try as they might, they couldn't muster enough forward momentum to break down the resolute Jude's defence and Jude's won in the end by three points; 1-13 to 0-13. The Hurling Section AGM is on Sunday 7th December at 8:30pm in the Glenalbyn House. Congratulations to all who partook in a great night in the club for "Take me out", a firing conclusion to the AFL8 team's Pitch n Putt Day Out.

WHAT an amazing night, Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday. Big thank you to all involved but special mention has to go to the Raheny Four, who pulled the whole thing together. Brian Curtis aka Maggot, Andrew Dowling aka Saus, Rob O Neill aka Swoop and Richie Kenny. We mustn't forget Cian Burgess and the fantastic job he did on our programme for the night. Claire Fitzgerald and Dave Heffernan were crowned King and Queen of the night; Gavin Ivory and Barbara Connelly were in 2nd place and Catherine Leech and Eamon Doherty came in a close third. Thank you to all the dancers who gave up so much of their free time and also raised large sums of money for the club. For further details please contact GPO James Costello on 086-3465433 or email james.costello.gpo.dublin@gaa.ie. We had a great turnout for our Mentors' Night on Friday, with representation from almost every team in the club. With the season over for most, it was fitting that we celebrated a very good year for our club - with good league wins for our U13 footballers, U15 hurlers and a double (championship & league) for our U16s. Not to mention the achievements of our first ever senior ladies team, who reached the semi-final of their Championship and living in the hope that our senior men's will also gain league promotion this year. With not too much talk of football or club politics, the atmosphere in the bar was relaxed and everyone enjoyed the evening. Thanks to all who came along, big thanks to DJ Joe (who pumped up the volume) and Trina at the bar. Here's to the 2015 season. There was no winner of our Lotto Jackpot this week, with numbers drawn 11, 14, 20 & 25. €50 went to J Buckley with €25 going to J O'Brien and M Gilligan. Next week's Jackpot will be €3,100. Entertainment in the Bar on Saturday night comes from Stage 2. Match Results: AFL5 - Cuala (0-17), Round Towers (1-15). This meeting with Cuala was an important game for Towers, one they needed to win. In what turned out to be an epic AFL5 promotional semi-final, both teams were level at the final whistle. Towers pulled out all the stops and went on to win by just one point.
