Away we go

STEPHEN HUNT has backed this Republic of Ireland side to take the European Championships by storm in Poland and Ukraine next summer – because the team will be away from home.

Ireland kept up their amazing away record by beating Estonia 4-0 on Friday night, making it four wins and five clean sheets from the last five away matches, with an overall away record – one defeat in 16 under Trapattoni – which any nation would envy.

And as minds turn towards the finals of Euro 2012, Wolves star Hunt reckons that the stunning away form will make the Republic real contenders at the finals.

“We have been better away from home under this manager and at the European Championship finals we will be away in a neutral ground. If we do qualify, we will do ok,” Hunt told the Herald.

“I know we’re not officially there yet but with the team we have, the manager and the way we play away, I can see us doing really well at the finals.

“We haven’t always played well in Dublin but away we’re a match for anyone,” added Hunt, who called on his team-mates to inflict more misery on Estonia tomorrow night.

“We approach tomorrow like a normal game and we will be ruthless. We have an obligation to our fans,” added Hunt.
