Soccer fans splash out

IRISH soccer fans will spend €5,500 each to attend English premiership games this season, new research has shown.

Ulster Bank has carried out analysis of fans who have season tickets for one of the 'big four' clubs -- Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea --and spend thousands every year travelling to see them play.

Jim Ryan, managing director of branch banking, urged football followers to put aside some money to help fund their trips.

"While the costs of being a supporter are high, planning and saving regularly can help make this more affordable, and with the soccer season kicking off, now is an opportune time to look at a savings plan to help budget and plan for the season ahead," he said.
