Shotgun man held in Limerick
A MAN armed with a shotgun was arrested at gunpoint in one of the country's busiest streets.
Armed members of the Regional Support Unit surrounded the car that the 25-year-old Cork man was driving in the centre of Limerick city shortly after noon yesterday.
With their weapons drawn, officers ordered the man from his car in the city's main street, O'Connell Street.
He was handcuffed and taken to Roxboro Garda Station for questioning. A shotgun along with three cartridges for the firearm were recovered from his car.
Belfast to hold jubilee party
Plans to invite 10,000 people to a Diamond Jubilee party when the queen visits Belfast later this month will be a fitting tribute to her reign, first minister Peter Robinson said.
The event will be held in the grounds of Parliament Buildings, Stormont, on June 27.
The queen is due to arrive in Northern Ireland on June 26, and plans to visit Co Fermanagh.
Anti-capitalist sex offender
An anti-capitalist protester uncovered as a sex offender with a string of international convictions, including rape and manslaughter, has been jailed for 24 weeks.
Stuart Durkin, 50, was found by police at a protest camp in Finsbury Square, north London, last year, using the false name "Troy" to target women.
He was sentenced at the Old Bailey yesterday for failing to comply with notification requirements enforced on him as a sex offender, and breach of bail conditions.
Woman traded 'child porn'
A Texas woman faces charges that she collected and traded child pornography.
Erika Susan Perdue was arrested on federal charges that she accessed child pornography from the computer in her $1.4m home in Dallas.
The indictment accuses the 41-year-old of transporting, shipping, receiving and possessing child pornography. She could receive 20 years for three of the counts.
