Shield loss shows up Chelsea's weakness
Antonio Conte
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will use yesterday's Community Shield defeat to Arsenal to underline his need for fresh faces in his squad.
After a 1-1 draw the Gunners outwitted Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out, Blues keeper Thibaut Coirtois missing his spot kick, as Arsene Wenger landed the first trophy of the season.
It was a frustrating day for Conte, who saw Pedro sent off and Willian booked for simulation, as Diego Costa still seems to have no future at Stamford Bridge, leaving Conte short in terms of striking options, and he will look for another signing before the next window closes.
"This game was a tough game for both teams. We tried to win, and we tried to improve our physical condition because in six days we start the league," said Conte.
"Now the most important thing is to continue to work and to improve our team."
