Sacred Heart out to upset odds and defeat MacDara's
THIS year's FAI Schools Leinster Girls Senior Cup will make its debut in a new school tomorrow afternoon as St Mac Dara's, Templeogue, face Sacred Heart, Tullamore in the showpiece.
Tomorrow's decider at Leixlip United (12.0 kick-off) will see the two final debutants look to claim the top provincial title in the girls' section for the very first time. Mac Dara's earned their spot last week with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over reigning champions Eureka Secondary School, Kells.
That victory followed up their narrow quarter-final win over another recent tournament winner, last year's beaten finalists Alexandra College, making the Dublin school outright favourites to lift the trophy.
However, Sacred Heart are determined to upset the odds after coming from behind also last week to beat Moyne Community School 2-1 in their semi-final.
equalised
Despite falling behind early on, Sacred Heart equalised when Megan O'Reilly set-up Shauna O'Reilly to finish before half-time.
A swift second-half break saw O'Reilly again provide the ammunition, but this time it was Lisa Gannon who applied the finish to deadly effect.
The Tullamore school has only been competing in football tournaments for the past four years, making their appearance in tomorrow's final all the more impressive.
