Rovers breeze into Cup semis
SHAMROCK ROVERS eased into the last four of the EA Sports Cup, setting up a meeting with rivals Bohemians next month, thanks to a 2-0 win over Cork City last night.
Ronan Finn scored four minutes before the break in the quarter-final clash at Tallaght Stadium, which was a heated affair at times.
Both sides finished with 10 men after Garry Buckley and Gary McCabe were dismissed within a minute of each.
Ciaran Kilduff added a second in injury time to seal it for the Hoops, who are away to Bohs in the semi-final on August 4. Dundalk and Galway will contest the other semi.
Meanwhile, Stephen Kenny feels that Dundalk have the potential to cause a shock against Hajduk Split in Croatia tomorrow and keep their European dream alive by overcoming a 2-0 deficit.
"It's a tall order but we will give it everything. All we can do is prepare well, make sure we are more compact in midfield and try our utmost to win the game. We won't be throwing in the towel and will prepare well," said Kenny.
"Two nil down away to Hajduk Split is a tough ask as they have a great pedigree. They will feel it's a formality, they are at home and they will be better again at home.
"But we have shown a great ability to come back, a few times last season we have come back from two down."
