Riot youth faces sentence

A YOUTH who was found guilty of taking part in a riot where gardai were injured when they were bombarded with bricks and rocks in a Dublin suburb is to be sentenced next month.

The teenager had pleaded not guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to violent disorder and breach of the peace charges, but was found guilty at a hearing last year.

The court heard that on September 19 2010, 30 gardai were attacked by about 15 rioters in a housing estate in Crumlin.

The teenager, who had no previous convictions, was remanded on continuing bail.

Father chops off girl's head

A father in north-western India beheaded his 20-year-old daughter with a ceremonial sword in a rage over her relationships with men, police said.

Oghad Singh (46) surrendered at a police station, carrying the head in one hand and the bloodied sword in the other. He was charged with murder.

Police said Singh, a marble miner, had accused his daughter of bringing dishonour to the family and making it hard to find husbands for her two unmarried sisters.

App deal from Facebook

Facebook is allowing app developers to charge subscription fees, in addition to existing one-time payments, for games and other applications on its site.

The subscription feature will be available next month. The changes open up a new revenue stream for developers as well as for Facebook, which takes a 30pc cut from all payments on its site.

Facebook is also replacing its own Credits currency with users' local currency.
