A DUBLIN bakery has secured a national contract with discount supermarket Lidl for the supply of 500,000 mince pies between now and Christmas.

Manning's Bakery has landed the deal to supply Lidl's 136 stores nationwide over the festive period.

The company said the pies would be made using a traditional recipe that was specially developed by the Manning family.

The Christmas order will use around 11.5 tons of rich fruit and brandy filling and 20 tons of buttermilk shortcrust pastry.

Lidl has also announced plans to open two new Dublin stores in December – in Terenure and Ballycullen – with the creation of 40 jobs.
