Ravens to hostsuper Sevens Spectacular

FINGAL RAVENS are hosting the Eflow Fingal Football Sevens tournament on the Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday, August 2nd.

It's the first ever Sevens event exclusively for Fingal teams. It is supported by Pieta House 'Mind our Men.'

Interest in the event is keen. "We are hoping for at least ten clubs to take part, and maybe even more than that," says David Mitchell of the Ravens.

"Fingal football has always had a keen sense of rivalry dating back to the old Fingal Leagues."

The club ground is the ideal venue for the competition and the football will form the centre-point of what will be a fun, family day.

"We are making a big occasion of it. There will be plenty do to for the kids and we'll have the best of grub."

There will be bouncing castles, GAA skill games for the kids, face-painting and more attractions. "It will be a very enjoyable day for adults and children."

Following the action, everybody will be welcome at Kettle's Country House for live outdoor music, a barbecue and the presentation of prizes.

The Sevens competition promises much good football. Senior squads will contain six senior players and four juniors.

"This will make it a very level playing field and it will give every side a realistic chance of winning the tournament," adds David.

Ravens are flourishing in the AFL division 2. They also progressed to the second round of the Dublin Senior Football Championship with a one-point win over Round Towers, Clondalkin.

It's a big turn-around from last season when the team hovered over the trap door that

led to division 3.

Fingal trained hard in pre-season and that fitness has been impressing all.

Their marvellous run recalls the days when Mick Deegan led the club to glory and all the way

to Croke Park.

In the meantime, the prospect of the inaugural Sevens competition coming to town is exciting the locals.

"It will be a very high standard of football. The matches will be competitive and we hope to make it an annual event," explains David.
