Portugal may quit euro

PORTUGUESE foreign minister Luis Amado has openly speculated that his country might need to leave the euro.

Mr Amado said that the country could be forced to make the decision if it cannot come to agreement on an austerity budget.

"We need to have an agreement to regain the conditions of stability to win the confidence of markets," he said. "There has to be an effort by all political groups and by the institutions to understand the gravity of the situation we're facing."
