Pogues Shane's fresh health fears
Fears are growing for Pogues hellraiser Shane MacGowan after doctors ordered him to "rest up" after he pulled out of a gig.
The news comes after reports that the iconic band will shortly call it a day with Shane indicating that they were down to their final performances.
The toothless star (56) was due to perform at a gig in London last Sunday in support of a former bandmate seriously injured in a car accident last year.
But he sparked speculation that all was not well when he performed with his band at London's Hyde Park on Saturday. The following day saw the "exhausted" singer cancelling his appearance at the Underworld venue in Camden for medical reasons.
One of the organisers of the benefit gig, Dave Lally, said that Shane was "heartbroken he couldn't do the show."
"But the man is just not well. He's exhausted. It was doctor's orders that he take it easy so he's gone back to Ireland. He wasn't well at Hyde Park either," he said.
zapped
He said his fellow organiser, Tom Creagh, visited him at his hotel and said he was "totally out of it".
"His energy was gone. He was zapped, just exhausted. The doctor was on the way at that stage. He wasn't booked to back to Ireland until Monday but the advice was that he should go last night and rest up," Mr Lally continued.
His sister then texted him to say that Shane "isn't in good form".
"Things have obviously been bad over the years but this is one of the worst ones. So fingers crossed he's okay," he added.
Shane recently revealed how last orders had been called on the Pogues, who reformed 13 years ago.
He said they planned to bow out in style with their Hyde Park gig in London last Saturday, where they were met with a mixed reaction.
"I just meant to do one gig. I didn't intend it to go on this long. This is the last year," he said. "But I'm 56 now so I want to start working out, going to the gym a couple of hours every day. "Anyway, this is the last gig."
