'Pod' offices on offer
DUBLIN'S self-proclaimed 'cheapest office space' company Pick a Pod makes use of unoccupied office buildings to provide affordable offices to start-ups and home-grown businesses.
Current rates for prime office space in Dublin city centre are up to €448 per square metre.
And during 2011 there was a 6pc increase in the number of start-up businesses in Ireland bringing the figure to 195,000.
But rent overheads and long term rental leases are not a feasible option for many of these growing businesses, and Pick a Pod noticed a gap in the market.
Users can go online, specify a time and pay for a 'pod' -- a phone, an office and a desk.
The facilities are available in the heart of Dublin's business sector from periods of one hour upwards for as little as €10.
The company also provide boardroom facilities, hot desks and virtual offices and was launched at Smithfield's Glass House Building.
Bosses hope to attract international companies who need an office or board meeting space in Dublin at short term notice.
