AN apprentice plumber caught driving without insurance six times because he could not afford cover has been jailed for four months.

James Gorman (24) was sentenced after he admitted repeatedly driving his car with no insurance, as well as stealing fuel from the same garage twice.

Gorman, of Templeview Walk, Clarehall, was also banned from driving for five years at Dublin District Court.

stopped

The court heard he was stopped at various locations around Dublin between February 2008 and August 2010.

On another occasion, on September 14, 2010, he was in possession of €150 worth of cannabis when stopped.

On July 30 and August 8, he went to the Grange service station in Baldoyle and filled his tank with €30 worth of diesel. He left without paying and when later confronted by gardai, he admitted the thefts.

The court heard the defendant was now insured.

"I hope it wasn't a waste of money because he's not going to be driving for a very long time," the judge added.
