Places are still available for the FODH Golf Classic

Niall Scully

HIMSELF would love to play in the annual Friends of Dublin Golf Classic at Castlewarden on Thursday, May 24.

There's still a few slots available on the time-sheet.

But they are sure to fill up fast. Those that sign up for the Classic, or sponsor a tee-box, go into the hat to win a fourball at the famous K Club.

The best GAA team on the day will win a €500 sports voucher for their club. Those that join the Friends of Dublin Hurling before the end of this month also go into the drum for that fabulous K Club prize. All the details on www.fodh.ie or from Michael (087-2331983).

p MEL FARRELL continues to pound the pavements for the club he loves so well, Erin's Isle.

He will be walking 'All Along the Banks of the Royal Canal', a 145km distance from the Liffey Basin to the Shannon at Cloondara. Mel will be doing the walk between May 24-28. All the proceeds go to Erin's Isle.

Sponsorship donations would shorten the journey. Mel's number is 087-2455800.

p A BLUE-LETTER day for RTé Radio's Brian Carthy, who was commentating on Sunday's U21 All-Ireland Football final in Tullamore as Dublin beat his native Roscommon. Brian's son, John Brian, was the Dublin goalkeeper.

Many years ago, the great Jimmy Magee also had the privilege of commentating on his son, the late Paul, when he played for Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland.
