Perpetual joy as Larkin minors stay unbeaten
LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE won the Minor Boys Perpetual Cup with an unblemished record against Kylemore College, Coláiste Dhúlaigh and Marino College in the CDVEC SCC soccer blitz held at Colóiste íde, Finglas.
With two wins under their belt Larkin faced Marino College in the deciding group game with one hand firmly on the cup, knowing anything but a defeat would be enough to lift the Cup.
Marino's Darren Boyd hadn't read the script when he scored with a sublime free kick in the first minute. Larkin bounced back with two goals from Kyle Chandler and their captain Gerard Black, who was inspirational throughout.
Boyd scored his second for Marino as Larkin took a slender 3-2 lead into the break. Larkin upped the tempo of the game after the restart but were denied with excellent saves from Marino's goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh.
Singh's defences were finally broken with a brace from Daniel Byrne either side of goals from Lee Barry and Black with Jordan Fox's double strike rounding off a perfect day for Larkin prior to Boyd notching up his hat-trick for Marino with the last kick of the game, Larkin winning 9-3.
Larkin had shown some early nerves and trailed 2-0 in their opening game against Kylemore College before making a strong second half comeback, led by Black and Byrne to win 8-2.
All nerves disappeared in Larkin's second game with a 10-0 win over Colaiste Dhulaigh, courtesy of goals from Callum McGovern, Karl Poutch, Byrne, Black, Fox and Lee Barry.
