Outsourcing firm creates 260 jobs

SOME 260 new jobs are being created in Cork City.

SouthWestern, a business outsourcing company headquartered in Clonakilty, has offices in Dublin as well as Poland and the United Kingdom.

It said the jobs will be filled immediately, with an extra 160 coming on stream over the next two years.

The new jobs will bring the workforce up to 1,100.

Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney said SouthWestern's expansion was a hugely positive development not just for the company but for the whole Cork region.

"SouthWestern is one of the country's leading outsourcing companies and from its base in Clonakilty, this Irish company has continued to expand the size and scope of its operations," Mr Coveney said.

"Supporting job creation is at the heart of government policy through the Action Plan for Jobs and the 260 new jobs which will be created here is tremendous news for people and businesses in the Cork/Cobh area."

SouthWestern's clients include Bord Gáis Energy, the Private Residential Tenancies Board, Independent News & Media, the Department of Agriculture as well as several other local government and public sector organisations.

Southwestern's Chairman Neil O'Leary said the increasing demand for business services in Ireland and internationally was good news for SouthWestern and the Cork region.
