O'Reilly stars as Sars battle past Crumlin
LUCAN SARSFIELDS 0-20
CRUMLIN 1-11
Lucan Sarsfields took a step closer to the quarter finals of the Dublin SHC with a hard fought Group A victory against Crumlin in Newcastle on Saturday evening.
Kevin O'Reilly was the star performer with eight points to keep the local side in a big lead for much of the game.
The first half was a pulsating affair with Crumlin's Dublin U21 forward Darren Whelan opening the scoring with a 65. Lucan struggled to settle but took the lead with points from O'Reilly and Dublin star Peter Kelly.
Crumlin's tenacious appetite soon saw them in for goal as Adam McGreal snuck through to blast a right footed shot into the roof of the net on 18 minutes but the Dublin 12 side failed score for the remainder of the half.
Meanwhile Kelly and O'Reilly came into their own with an exhibition of fine shooting to put Lucan 0-13 to 1-3 up at the break.
In a scrappy second half Crumlin started the stronger with Sean Stafford popping over two frees. At the other end O'Reilly remained clinical in front of the sticks, tagging on points from either side. Lucan finished stronger with Peter Carroll and Kevin Fitzgerald slotting over excellent scores.
