Your voice your letters: Asylum seeker woes

I would like to tell readers about friends I have who are asylum seekers. They are only teenagers -- some are still in school, others have just finished.

I would like to tell readers about friends I have who are asylum seekers. They are only teenagers -- some are still in school, others have just finished.

They have been in Ireland for a few years now but are still being pushed around by the system. When they arrived in Ireland, they were all put together into a hostel with about 30 young asylum seekers; now they are being forced to move.

They are being separated from the few people they trust. They have to move schools, move to places where they don't know anyone. And they have the threat of deportation hanging over them.

They are good people. It makes me wonder what sort of a country we live in that this can be allowed happen to extremely vulnerable young people.

Queen's too costly

I'm a regular reader of Michael O'Doherty's column and couldn't agree more with him regarding the Queen's visit to our country. We simply can't afford to pay for this visit.

Scoring an own goal

AS a lifelong supporter of Bohemians Football Club, I am disgusted with the price of tickets for children.

The League of Ireland tries to promote these matches but who in their right mind is going to pay €20 for themselves to see a match and then another €30 to bring their three children if they aren't under 12?

If the club wants a bigger crowd then they should be reducing their prices.

welcome hunting ban

I FOR ONE am very pleased with the passing of the Wildlife Bill that bans stag hunting.

I have always been against this cruel practice and to see that this type of hunting is now outlawed is a wonderful achievement for animal rights activists.

Katy has the x factor

I THOUGHT that Katy Perry looked absolutely smashing at The X Factor auditions in Dublin. I'm a huge fan of the show and actually auditioned for this season. Though, sadly, I didn't make it, I got to see Katy up close, and I have to say she looked even better in person than she does in photos.

She seemed so lovely too, signing autographs and talking to the fans outside before she began filming. It was a terrific day out!

mobile bill shock

I WAS amazed when I opened my mobile phone bill this month and saw the total I owed €550.

I called my provider and they said that a majority of the charges on my bill were roaming charges; receiving a text or even checking my voicemail cost me significant cash! I knew using my phone abroad would cost more, but not this much.

impressive 'sir' gaga

DID ANYONE see the pictures from a recent photo shoot in Lady Gaga as a 'man'? She really looks like she could be a bloke, I couldn't believe it! I guess that this photo shoot just further proves that Lady Gaga can do anything!
